Thanks for your comments on EWY and PKX. Are you aware of an alternative way int invest in S. Korea's stock market because EWY has over 15% in Samsung? Do you know what price Buffett payed for PKX? Reply6 Metal Stocks That Shine Brighter Than Gold [view article]
"The aluminum industry claims that every pound of aluminum used in a car reduces carbon-dioxide emissions by 20 pounds over a hundred miles"At 20mpg, 5 gal is burned every 100 miles.
Each gallon of gasoline has 5.3 Lb carbon, or 19.4 Lb CO2 when burned, for 97 Lb CO2 per 100 miles
So... adding 4.85Lb aluminum to my car will reduce my CO2 emmissions to zero (which must mean my milage increased to infinity! Praise the aluminum industry. The energy problems are solved! (but my current car has probably 30-50 Lb of aluminum in the engine, Vs zero Lb for my old 69 Mustang, which got 15 mpg - looks like that claim is BS)

Correct me if I am wrong: US Steel should see the same pinched margins as in the past once Bernanke begins to raise rates, and strengthen the dollar. Of course, I am not that confident in the US's ability to have a strong currency, as Paulson has been preaching that mantra since oil began its ascent. I have a compltely different opinion on aluminum producers, regardless of the fact that aluminum remain at the high price. Read my reasonings of why right here:seekingalpha.com/artic...
I believe the best commodity play, if you consider supply/demand imbalance, and price elasticity, scarcity of source, narrowness of market, is the platinum and palladium metals. And the best two stocks to play palladium are SWC and PAL.
I am NOT a gold bug and I do not buy gold, btw. So my bullish view on PGM metals is not because they are precious metals, but because there is real shortage which can not be cured any time soon, especially due to the South African electricity crisis.

I wonder why zinc is plummeting even as steel rises. As I understand it, zinc's largest use is to galvanize steel. It seems unlikely that demand for steel would rise while demand for zinc would decline. I wonder if all the cheap zinc miners are a good way to play steel right now. Zinc is damn cheap. Agree on the post, but I recommend you look at Ormet Corp, ORMT, for a pureplay aluminum company. Trading for $1200/ton of production and 2.3x next years EBITDA. ReplyWarming

The value add in aluminum is not from the mining operation or scarcity, but from the refining process. It is very energy intensive. You make money by having a cheap source of electricity that you can use to reduce the bauxite ore into aluminum metal.Reply
