  • Microsoft Admits Apple's iPhone Is Better
that's quite an endorsement. I was at Stanford Mall on Saturday and the Apple store was full there, however heading home, I passed by the one on University ave around 6:30pm and it wasn't as full as it normall is.

The big question when will the recession impact luxury items like an iPhone, or is a $200 phone not a luxury item. I've put off buying one so far becuase I prefer the accuracy of a touch keyboard, but the other day I was viewing contracts in pdf on a client's iPhone and it was a way better experience than my Blackberry Curve. So my next phone may be an iPhone. But I won't buy it until the price drops, or the 3rd generation appears. I always prefer to buy the 3rd iteration of something.

  • Recent Announcements Will Spark Electric Car Sales
I agree, now is a good time to put a tax on oil. People are already going back to the old ways of wasting fuel.

  • Should Apple Consider Buying Yahoo!?
    some very interesting comments,

if AAPL were to buy Yahoo, they could bring clarity to Yahoo's messaging , and simplify their UI, however AAPL would need a search engine preceived to be better than Google's to make it work. The big problem is that it may divert too much attention from what they currently do it's natural progression towards a mobile knowledge communicator. A small box that we uses to make telephone and data communications and which we plug into a docking station to deal our everyday business and home work.

on buying skpye, makes no sense the margins are tough and would be cheaper to get into and more profitable to do partnership deal with Skpe or another.

  • Damage Report: Nokia Blows Up Mobile Sector
I think the iPhone is cool, but hey, I'm not a fool to piss away money, my curve does everything I need, and I'm actually thinking of ditching it and going back to a simple phone, because I don't want to be constantly reminded of something to do.

iPhone will need to come down in price, and ATT will have to lower it's data subscription costs for me to be interested in buying the iPhone.

  • Will Apple's Q1 2009 Revenue Estimates Be a Blowout?
how does this reconcile with the 40% drop-off in iPhone production that was highlighted last week. I'm guessing Apple stuffed the Channel for the holiday season and is now scaling back expecting a drop-off after the holiday season. If we go into a recession, nothing except healthcare and tax preparers will do well.

  • Another Report That Apple is Cutting iPhone Production
the stores seem as busy as ever, but as with any new hot technology, once the tech nuts (I mean early adopters) have it, things slow down until it becomes even cheaper.

  • The Political Case to Short India
Yes Pakistan's heightened instability is bad news for India, but India has been fighting these battles, since its birth.

India's middle class will continue to enlarge, and will drive domestic consumption more importantly these next 5 years. It's a given the Indian economy will be stronger and bigger in the future. The recent sharp weakening of the rupee against the dollar will reverse. The appeal to send money to India to simply invest in CDs is enticing right now. The big question is what the impact of real estate speculation will have on the economy, and how long it'll take the middle class to absorb all the real estate currently being held vacant by speculators.

  • Is Apple More Undervalued Than Other Tech Sector Stocks?
Excellent article! Best way to judge the value of anything is relative to the alternatives. It's how we do appraisals in the real estate industry. You've made a good point about Apple being the best priced real estate in Fremont, but do I want to buy real estate in Fremont where the schools are great but prices haven't come down much or am I better off buying it in areas like Hayward where prices have dropped 50% or more.

If the economy continues to tank, toy purchases will decline, and AAPL will suffer from that, since it sells expensive toys. In your next article I'd like to see you write about how AAPl fared in previous downturns.

    Good Analysis. Keep it up.

  • RIM Faces a Critical Month As Apple Gets Tough
Apple will win the consumer market, because it's easy to use and remember it's an iPod with a phone. So all those iPod lovers who lover carrying around their music will love to have a single device to move to once they can afford it.

However, the iPhone is not a business phone, and because of secuirty and management issues. RIMM is not going away, they may not grow as fast as APPl, but they will continue to grow, and until AAPL comes out with a keyboard for the iPhone they'll have a distinct advantage over the iPhone.

When I'm searching for real estate online, it's way more efficient to use a keyboard.

  • Apple Could Crush Competitors With a $99 iPhone
Apple will follow the same strategy it did with the iPod, and eventually have a phone at each price point. I predict in one year they'll have accomplished this.

  • Apple Valuations: Still at Risk
AAPL Vs. RIM vs. the wannabe's.

AAPL - every iPod user will eventually buy an iPhone. itune maintains the trade-up strategy, RIMM, has some technical lead in mail delivery, but over time, this can be emulated by the wannabes. Yes AAPL's UI can be imitated over time like windows did to MAC, but iTunes is proprietary. AAPL is safe over the long term for this.
