  • How to Spend $700B and Actually Solve the Problem
Isn't it ironic. Enron manipulated mark-to-market to create an overvaluation of its enterprise. Now mark-to-market is the cause of a devaluation of financial institutions. Things could be worse though - there might not be a level 3 categorization.

  • How to Spend $700B and Actually Solve the Problem
Although your proposal would make sense it would never work. They (Fed and Treasury) aren't join at the hip to any cronies at those other banks you are talking about. Be realistic this is all about patronage so unless you got some sort of a proposal that does that? Oh wait there is one proposed isn't there...

I've seen a number of comments about fascism thrown around lately and I think it worth quoting Benito Mussolini "Fascism should more appropriately be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power. "

  • What's the Smartest Money Doing? Buffett's Buying Goldman Sachs
So how is it I replicate Warren's deal exactly? I don't understand. Is this author just dense, dim witted or is s/he being facetious? Even Buffett doesn't believe the value of GS is the current market price. Otherwise the strike on the warrants would be something like $175.

  • Analysts' Oil Forecasts Wildly Off Base
As I recall, Mr. Zigler was in a nat gas to oil spread position a few weeks ago. Has this been taken off or is disclosure passe?

  • Did the Shorting Ban Affect SKF?
Why can't Proshares just do net trading of UYG against SKF? Why would they have to enter into any agreements unless there becomes a supply demand imbalance which they would then just manage by trading the market in those instruments? I would imagine that is exactly what's going on.

  • Whale Watching: Buffett's Move Is Just What Investors Need
BSCLossMan, nothing ever goes down in a straight line but it will eventually find it's level (and it ain't there yet).

  • Buffett Enters the Fray
I calculate that Buffett figures the GS stock is really valued currently at less than $90. That's based on the longest dated ATM call option on GS I can find which is $25 and that is grossly understated since time is about half the time Buffett has on his warrants.

  • Buffett Enters the Fray
Well at least Buffett is only up $650 million on this deal already this morning as opposed to afterhours where he was up $1 billion. I wonder if he was the one selling in afterhours yesterday. Imagine how much he'll make just selling calls against that position. He'll probably pay off his preferred stake and have the dividend and warrants for free.

  • Bank Stocks Down 11.56% Yesterday
Don't give us that BS about "why buy when the shorts will be back". No one is buying because there is no known value in these stocks and the weak shorts have been taken out. Having shorts creates buying interest in case you aren't aware. Give us some info about the amount of the short interest in these companies and how much that changed between last week and the week before.

Alternatively, go look at the 1932 witch hunt against the shorts only to have the market continue to meltdown for several months after the fact. Why? Because there were no buyers left and stocks simply hadn't found their level.

  • Buffett Warned Us in 2003
mkreisel, writing 1300 puts when at 1200 makes a lot more sense than writing them at 1400. Wouldn't you agree that would be a better deal?

Thanks to the SA Editor for the link change over.
