      Is GM Cheap?
One huge positive is in place for GM. Nearly everyone hates GM stock and believes the company to be all but finished. But, as us old guys know, when nearly everyone believes anything it is almost always dead wrong.

Has General Motors Earned a Bailout?
Consider that GM and its employees have themselves paid billions into the Federal treasury over the company's 100 year history. Also consider the two world wars and cold war that GM technology and products helped win over that time. An on-going restructuring, underscored by world-class products, has been underway at GM. It was thrown off-track by a financial industry that caused a world wide crisis because of ITS products, namely worthless mortgage backed securities. So, in spite of all of this, you say GM has not earned Federal loans? GM not only deserves these loans but, based on the above, I dare say it might be owed to them.

The "Sovereign Society"?!?!? Poster children for the self-centered hypocrisy that has caused this entire mess. Listen to their mission statement "We've identified the safest and most private nations around the globe, where our members can find the best offshore banks, tax havens, legal structures, insurance vehicles, investment opportunities and tax management solutions." In other words "F**k America. We're all about gettin all the benefits, but avoiding paying for it".

More Federal Money Won't Help the Big 3 Automakers
Serious, painful and meaningful concessions from all stakeholders should be mandated before Federal funds are extended to the auto industry. Bankruptcy, however, would be a disaster. It would ensure its liquidation and mean the loss of billions in tax revenue, cause the failure of many local communities, put tens of thousands on to Medicaid and Federal unemployment benefits, increase our dependence on foreign powers...and the list goes on. So, if you think that bankruptcy is a less expensive alternative for the taxpayer, think again.

Are the Automakers Silencing Ad Supported Media Criticism?
Allears, have you considered the true cost to the economy of such Chapter 11 filings? It would be an astronomical and would include billions in Federal unemployment benefits, Medicaid supplements, lost property taxes to local communities, etc, etc, Limited and conditional Federal aid, based on a solid and achievable plan, will be far less costly to the taxpayer in the long run.

The Big Three Crisis: Stocks Plunge as Politicians Moralize
"Midas1", You state that "Toyota and Honda are simply superb companies that back their product"? Do this: Google "Toyota engine sludge" and read about the class action lawsuit that it finally took to get Toyota's attention about a chronic design flaw with their engines. Toyota and the dealers BLAMED THE CUSTOMER for not changing the oil at required intervals. A court decision determined otherwise. Similar issues have transpired with their truck engine crank shafts and car transmissions.

You've been drinking the Japanese Kool-Aid too long, junior, and it's effected you ability to gather facts and think rationally.

      Citigroup: The End Draws Near
Stick a fork in Citi. It has surrendered 15 years worth of market value gains and will fall even further. So appropriate for a nation that now only excells at churning worthless financial instuments.

      GM: Buyout Better than Bailout
Where have you been, Rob? Cerberus is a private equity firm. They bought Chrysler and then realized how incredibly challenging it is to design and build product, satisfy legacy obligations and deal with Federal emission and CAFE mandates and the UAW. It seems that all those New York MBA's really know how to do is churn worthless financial instruments. They've proven they can't run a car company.

      Let the Detroit Automakers Fail
Avery, you stated in a previous article "that capitalism is the most efficient way to organize an economy," Do you consider what the insufficiently regulated "free markets" have done to the financial sector when you make this statement? Yes, I realize attorneys like you that specialize in securities law are benefitting nicely from the mess that has been created, but what about the average worker? The average investor? You and our current president sound much alike, and equally disingenuous.
