Markets Showing Signs of (Some) Bullish Divergence
Well, so much for the SPX holding.

However, I agree on the positive divergences and would point to many of the most beaten down stocks on the most beaten down indices as having significant positive MACD divergences vs their October lows. These could have violent snapback rallies once an intermediate term bottom is in place. I would stay away from financials however, notwithstanding the above noted divergences.

This Recession Should End in June
""but, if it is over by June, can we get our bail out money back?""

Ha, we'll never see that money again, regardless... just hope the Republicans in Congress don't ask for our stimulus checks back.

If I had a dollar for every economist, market analyst, broker, pundit, talking head on CNBC who said last winter/spring that we WEREN'T in a recession, accused we the people of being too pessimistic and that if there were one we were causing it by our pessimism, and that the economy would be revving back up with strong GDP growth in Q3 and Q4, I'd be on an island in the Caribbean right now.

Fact is, everyone on the planet missed this one. And no one appears to have any idea how to stop it.

The Party Is Over: The Crisis We Borrowed & Spent Our Way Into
Peter, great article... unfortunately it'll go down about as easy as the idea that Americans may benefit by losing a few (dozen) pounds apiece... we're big, Peter, and we like it that way... why, its our birthright!

At least until we're on the gurney.

Candidates Are Off Course On Picks For Treasury Secretary
Obama will go with Rubin or Summers... and Volcker will have a key spot on his economic policy team... that's a pretty damn good brain trust and sure beats the heck out of Gramm/Fiorina/Whitman (good grief!).

I'd like to see him establish a special financial "crisis" team right out of the gate... not only to take on this current one, but to prevent or lessen the affects of future "anomalies".

Obama is extremely intelligent, and he will attract brilliant people to his administration... they will hopefully be able to put the policies, plans and procedures in place to avoid these problems BEFORE they get out of control... they can game out various scenarios, have coordinated response processes set up with all other global economic leaders, and most importantly - maintain some reasonable restraint on the cowboys and boy geniuses on Wall Street who think up these schemes in the first place.

Why the Financial Markets Haven't Responded
Poor little dumbya looks like a lost little child... he's making fewer public appearances than Sarah the Silent... and they're about tied as far as expressing their total ignorance when they do make those isolated appearances.

I guess dumbya didn't like the poll numbers and this is his way of getting even.. he'll have his house and fat pension and medical insurance after this disaster, that's all that counts.

I'll finish with this quote from a great American writer... if you can guess his name you win the prize...

"The president we get is the country we get. With each president the nation is conformed spiritually. He is the artificer of our malleable national soul. He proposes not only the laws but the kinds of lawlessness that govern our lives and invoke our responses. The people he appoints are cast in his image. The trouble they get into and get us into, is his characteristic trouble.

Finally, the media amplify his character into our moral weather report. He becomes the face of our sky, the conditions that prevail. How can we sustain ourselves as the United States of America given the stupid and ineffective warmaking, the constitutionally insensitive lawgiving, and the monarchal economics of this president? He cannot mourn but is a figure of such moral vacancy as to make us mourn for ourselves."

Its time we mourn for ourselves people, for WE did not get here by accident.

      Yesterday's Market: Advantage, Bulls
Good article Jeff, the sidelines are perfectly acceptable investment instruments these days.

So far this sucking chest wound market takes from both sides, and unless you're nimble and lucky, don't hold anything overnight.

so far the pessimists and bears have been absolutely correct, while the permabulls and denial-aisle guys have been absolutely wrong... until that performance metric changes I'll stay on the sidelines and watch the denial aisle guys get their heads handed to them while they beat their chests and crow that this latest low is the bottom... so far all talk, no action.

Signed Rescue Bill Hasn't Stopped the Market's Downward Trend
Good post ebwjd... that is my analytical view as well. Problem is, emotions in the markets are so out of control right now, TA and FA are going out the window for the time being.

Cash (and safe cash) is king.

I would prefer to see a cratering at some point followed by a solid base-building period... but the fundamentals in the world economies are still very far from suggesting that scenario.

      America's Real Wealth
So funny, the RNC comes rushing out accusing the "Socialists" of all the problems that Wall Street, Main Street and the ratings agencies foisted on the world, and reiterating their hate (can you say FEAR/RESENTMENT?????) of those European "Socialists" who were dumb enough to fall for their lies.

Isn't 8 years of this moronic lie enough?

What a bunch of hypocrites and revisionists of history.... pathetic.

They're more ignorant than the nitwit from alaska, and that's saying something... but if they keep her penned up on McCant's ranch brainwashing her for another month, well, she'll be close.
