Three Reasons Solar Sell-off May Be in Early Innings

I would be looking at the bi-partisan New Energy Reform Act of 2008 (New Era Bill) that will be taken up in Congress when they get back together. The basic trade is drilling for extension of the renewable subsidies. Not a bad trade at that. Solar will sky.

The Oil Bubble Will Meet the Same Fate as Tech, Housing

Jason, you clever boy. You sure have picked the trends. First dot-com, then real estate, now oil. You are not to be fooled.

Question. Why hasn't the global production of oil increased over the past few years as the price has soared? Hmm. Why are all of the OECD producers declining in production? Hmm. Why are the reserve books at the OPEC producers so opaque? Hmm.

No, Jason, this is not a bubble. It is the beginning of the end of fossil fuel as we know it. It has been a very good run this last hundred and thirty some odd years, digging out the cheap stuff and burning it into the atmosphere. But every party must end.

Tell you what. Let's us wager on the chance of $50 oil. Ever again. All in. That way I won't have to keep watching this slow motion nightmare of our global economy unwinding and coming apart.

I can just sit on my beach blowing bubbles.

Wells Fargo (WFC) will become the largest U.S. bank by branches with its bid for Wachovia (WB), after Citigroup (C) withdrew from compromise negotiations late yesterday on concerns about the quality of some of Wachovia's assets. Wells Fargo, with a bid valued at $11.4B, expects the purchase to be completed by the end of the year, and denies it will have to absorb assets shakier than originally thought. Government considers next steps. As the financial crisis continues to worsen, the U.S. government is considering two dramatic steps to turn around, or at least slow, the damage: guaranteeing billions of dollars in bank debt and temporarily insuring all U.S. bank deposits. The moves, which would mark the government's most extensive intervention to date, are in discussion stages only. Credit stays frozen. As frozen credit markets refuse to thaw, the cost of default protection on corporate bonds reaches new global records amid investor concerns the credit crisis will trigger corporate failures as companies struggle to finance their businesses. Interbank lending remains limited, and borrowing from the Fed's expanded discount window continued its trend of setting new highs every week, as the total daily average rose to $420.2B vs. $367.8B last week.
