Does anyone have any opinions on ISL? Is it well managed? Fees?

There really should be an Israel index ETF, because there are a lot of Israeli publicly traded companies on the NASDAQ and locally. Why hasn't someone issued this one?

How to Win the China Piracy Battle
      Excellent article. Particularly:
<blockquote>The problem is more a matter of economics than of a morally corrupt Chinese populace. As the disposable incomes of Chinese consumers continue to grow, brand loyalty gains currency, and domestic Chinese companies begin to lose revenue to pirates, intellectual property problems will be solved in much the same way as they were in Taiwan and Korea. Smart multinationals will make sure they are in a strong position to reap the benefits in China.</blockquote&...

Nuveen Takeover Makes Legg Mason and Federated Look Cheap
I wonder whether part of what drove the Nuveen acquisition was the opportunity to convert all the closed-end bond funds into ETFs, and become a huge ETF player in one shot.

On the First Trust Value Line 100 ETF Conversion: Advantages and Drawbacks
"There are four things that eventually happen when closed-end funds trade at large discounts and sophisticated, large investors get involved... Otherwise, the large asset management companies will not find it lucrative enough to bring out new closed-end funds and they will die out."

Why shouldn't they die out? If they trade at discounts to net asset value, they're a lousy deal for the initial investors, and the 4 outcomes you mention are just the market's way of closing the discount.

Yahoo Shakeout: CEO Semel Out, Co-Founder Yang In
Surprising that the stock traded up so much, as the catalyst for Semel's departure was that Yahoo will miss consensus estimates for the year. From sell-side analyst Bill Morrison's note:

<blockquote>Whil... we think the management change was needed, and a positive step for the company, the news was offset by a modification to guidance for 2Q and 2007. Business appears to mixed for Yahoo! nearly half way through 2007; Panama is tracking ahead of expectations during the second quarter, but the positive search trends is being offset by weakness in Yahoo!'s display ad business and the company's affiliate network. Despite Panama achieving earlier than expected annual double digit gains in revenue per search (RPS), management conceded that overall growth for both the quarter and the back end of 2007 would be between the midpoint and the lower end of the company's revenue and EBITDA guidance range.</blockquote&...

Tax Advantages of Inverse ETFs Not So Clear
Interesting -- thank you. It looks like the ProShares inverse ETFs are most attractive for retail investors who want to short stocks in accounts that don't allow that, such as IRAs. Going long an inverse ETF achieves the same thing but technically with a long position.
